Physical SIM
Easiest is a SIM at the airport AIS or True counters: 15–30-day tourist packages with unlimited data for 300–450 THB, set up by passport in five minutes. In town (7-Eleven, operator shops) the same packages cost 50–100 THB less. Coverage is excellent for both; AIS is marginally stronger in remote corners.
eSIM
If your phone supports eSIM, set it up before you fly via operator apps or aggregators and land already connected. Thai tourist eSIMs cost about the same as plastic; international travel eSIMs are pricier per GB but seamless. Keep your home SIM active only for bank SMS — roaming data is expensive.
Working remotely
4G/5G (30–100 Mbps) handles video calls fine; most cafes and nearly all of our rentals have Wi-Fi. For backup, phone tethering is enough — the 'unlimited' plans are genuinely uncapped. No pocket Wi-Fi rental needed.

Both are great. AIS edges coverage in remote spots; True is often cheaper. For a normal trip you won't notice a difference.
