Patong is the heart of Phuket's tourist life: nearly three kilometres of sand backed by hundreds of restaurants, the Jungceylon and Central malls, and the neon of Bangla Road. It's the easiest place to stay car-free — everything is walkable, taxis and tuk-tuks everywhere.
The beach is wide with a gentle entry; calm in high season, wavier in summer with lifeguard flags. For quieter sand, the north end towards Kalim Beach is noticeably calmer than the centre.
