Renting with a kitchen in Phuket: how much it actually saves
21 August 2026 · 4 min read
The kitchen is the most underrated filter in a Phuket housing search. Here's the money it moves.
The economics (couple, one month)
- Eating out only: 2 people × 3 meals × 150–250 THB = 27,000–45,000 THB/month
- Breakfasts and some dinners at home + lunches out: 15,000–22,000 — saving 10,000–20,000 THB every month
- Groceries: markets and Makro beat European prices on fruit, chicken and seafood; dairy and cheese cost more
With children a kitchen stops being optional: early breakfasts, snacks and non-spicy «home food» only happen with your own stove.
Kitchenette vs full kitchen
- Kitchenette (standard in studios): 1–2 induction hobs, small fridge, microwave, sink — fine for breakfasts and reheating
- Full kitchen (villas, larger units): proper hob, big fridge, cookware for a group; an oven is a genuine rarity in Thailand
Check before booking
Cookware and a kettle actually present (never guaranteed in Asia), hob power, a window or extractor — frying in a sealed studio is an experience. Asking the manager for a list is a normal question. Kitchen setups are visible in unit photos in the catalogue; where to eat out well and cheaply — the food guide; grocery prices — in the FAQ.
