Pet-friendly rentals in Phuket: how to stay with a cat or dog
21 August 2026 · 4 min read
Phuket with a cat or dog is entirely doable — thousands of long-stayers live here with pets. The bottleneck is housing, and it has known workarounds.
Why many condos say no
Most condominium buildings ban animals in their internal rules — it's the building, not the landlord, so no amount of charm changes it, and sneaking a pet in risks losing the deposit and the booking. Pet-friendly stock concentrates elsewhere:
- Houses and townhouses in residential estates — the main pet market: house rental guide
- Villas — usually at the owner's discretion, often with a pet deposit
- A minority of apartment buildings that explicitly allow animals
The rules of a pet deal
- Declare the pet before booking — species, size, count; surprise animals at check-in end badly
- A pet deposit (a few thousand baht) or a small monthly add-on is normal
- Get the permission written into the contract
Living with a pet on the island
Vet clinics are good and inexpensive, big pet stores deliver any brand, and grassy estates beat condo corridors for dogs. Watch the heat (walks at dawn/dusk), soi dogs (keep smaller dogs leashed), and snakes in tall grass — the same common sense as anywhere tropical.
Tell the manager about your animal in the catalogue chat — pet-friendly units are a known list, and we'll match you to owners who genuinely welcome them. Short answer version — in the FAQ.
