Phuket in 3 days: a short-trip itinerary

Three days is a concentrate: one day for the south's sights, one at sea, one for the city and markets. You'll catch the essentials.

Best for: For transit travellers and short breaks: see the icons without turning the holiday into a marathon.

  1. Day 1

    Beach + southern classics

Morning on your area's beach — acclimatising beats box-ticking. In the afternoon, when the heat eases, do the Big Buddha and Wat Chalong (they're close, 3–4 hours with travel). Finish with sunset at Promthep Cape: arrive 40 minutes early and take the slope to the right of the main platform.

  2. Day 2

    Island day trip

A full day on the water. The choice is simple: Phi Phi for that turquoise Maya Bay postcard, or Phang Nga Bay for karsts and calm-water kayaking (better if you get seasick or travel with kids). Take a tour with an early departure to beat the main crowds.

  3. Day 3

    Old Town & markets

A morning swim and packing, then the Old Town in the afternoon: Sino-Portuguese streets, cafes, street art (2–3 hours at a stroll). Evening at a night market — Lard Yai on Thalang if it's Sunday, otherwise Chillva or Naka. Dinner at the market is the best food value of the trip.

FAQ

Which area should I stay in for a short trip?

Kata or Karon: central on the west coast, easy access to the south, Town and the piers. A beach on your doorstep saves the one thing you're short on — time.

Is 3 days enough for Phuket?

For the highlights, yes: beach, Buddha, Promthep, an island and the Old Town fit without rushing. To really settle in, you want a week.

Phi Phi or Phang Nga?

Phi Phi for beaches and snorkelling; Phang Nga for scenery and calm water. Seasick or with kids — pick Phang Nga.
