Days 1–2
Your area's beaches & the south
First two days without an alarm: your beach, the neighbouring coves, evening scouting of cafes. On day two afternoon, the Big Buddha + Wat Chalong combo, then sunset at Promthep or the Yanui windmill (same panorama, fewer people).
Day 3
The big sea: Phi Phi
A full day on Phi Phi with an early start: Maya Bay, Pi Leh lagoon, snorkelling. You'll be back by 5–6 p.m. — plan nothing but a seafront dinner.
Day 4
Elephants + water park or beach day
Morning at an ethical elephant sanctuary (feeding and bathing, 3–4 hours with transfer). Then your call: a water park till evening if you have kids, or a lazy beach. Evening massage — especially good after elephants and slides.
Day 5
Phang Nga or the Similans
A second sea trip, different from the first. In season (Nov–Apr) the top pick is the Similans: the Andaman's best snorkelling. Year-round, Phang Nga Bay with James Bond Island and cave kayaking.
Day 6
Other beaches
A beach-hopping day by scooter or with a driver: morning at wild Ao Sane or Freedom, lunch with a view, then Kata Noi or Surin. The contrast of coves is half the fun — and you'll learn where to stay next time.
Day 7
Old Town & market
A cultural finale: the Old Town with its cafes and murals, the Khao Rang viewpoint, and a night market in the evening (Lard Yai on Sunday). Buy souvenirs here — cheaper and more interesting than the beach shops.
FAQ
How much should I budget for excursions?
Two sea trips + elephants + a water park for two is roughly 10,000–14,000 THB. The other stops are free or nearly so.
Do I need a scooter for a week?
It makes life much easier for beaches and viewpoints. Without one, Grab/Bolt and tour transfers cover everything — pricier, but workable.
Which area for a week?
Kata/Karon is all-round; Bang Tao for space and restaurants; Nai Harn/Rawai for quiet and the 'real' south. See our area guides.
