Naka Weekend Market by Central Festival is the biggest, weekend evenings: clothes, souvenirs, a food court. Chillva Market in Phuket Town is the hip one, with food in converted containers and live music. Malin Plaza in Patong is compact and handy if you stay on the west. Lard Yai on Thalang is the Sunday market in the Old Town, the most atmospheric of all.
Pad Thai and fried rice run 60–80 THB, meat skewers 10–20 each, roti with banana and condensed milk 40–60, fresh juices 40–50. Grilled seafood costs more but still half the price of a beachfront restaurant.
Tips
- •Bring small cash — cards are rarely accepted
- •Eat where the Thais eat — more reliable than any rating
- •Food-court prices are fixed; on clothing rows, haggling is fine
