A marine national park north-east of Phuket: hundreds of karst islands in the calm water of the bay. The headliner is Ko Tapu near Ko Phing Kan, made famous by 'The Man with the Golden Gun'. Trips usually include the stilt village of Ko Panyi, caves and kayaking through mangrove channels.
Tours leave from the north-eastern piers; hotel transfer is usually included. Formats vary — big longtails (cheaper, slower), speedboats (faster, pricier) and guided kayak trips. Price is 1,500–3,000 THB per person, park entry often extra.
Tips
- •If you get seasick, choose Phang Nga over Phi Phi — the bay is sheltered
- •Kayaking is usually with a paddling guide; ask if you want to paddle yourself
- •The souvenir market at Ko Panyi is pushy — budget minimal time there
