Wat Chalong is the largest of Phuket's 29 Buddhist temples, built in the 19th century. Its 60-metre Chedi holds a bone relic of the Buddha; inside, three floors of frescoes tell his life. Locals still come to pray for health at the shrines of the revered monks Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang.
It sits at the junction of Routes 4021 and 4023 in Chalong, ten minutes from the Big Buddha — the two are almost always seen together. It's a working temple, not a museum: dress respectfully, remove shoes indoors.

- •Climb to the top floor of the Chedi for views and near-empty rooms
- •Come in the morning before the tour groups
- •The firework kiln is where locals thank the temple for answered wishes — the bangs are loud
