Promthep Cape, Phuket

The southernmost point of Phuket and the island's main sunset viewpoint over the Andaman Sea.

Free1 hour (arrive 40 min before sunset)

A rocky cape dropping into the sea at the island's southern tip, with a lighthouse-museum and an elephant shrine. The whole island comes here to watch the sun sink into the Andaman.

It's 5 minutes from Nai Harn, 10 from Rawai, 20 from Kata. Parking fills before sunset — come 40–50 minutes early. Five minutes away, the windmill viewpoint over Yanui beach offers the same sunset with a third of the crowd.

Tips

  • The main platform gets packed — take the path to the right for the same views without the crowd
  • Bring a windbreaker: the cape is always breezy
  • In the rainy season the sunset is often clouded — check the forecast
